Build Websites with Your Phone?

Details

If you ever wished you could build or edit a website using just your smart phone, you’re in luck.

a mobile-first platform developed by thinkerIT, uses pre-designed templates, point-and-click actions for content entry, and a simple user interface to allow users to build and maintain their websites right from their smart phone or tablet.

“We give you a design template that’s already 80 percent to 90 percent complete,” said Suleyman Aydogan, managing director, thinkerIT and Binarta. “When you streamline the process of building a site, and give people tools through their smart phone to edit text and photos, they can do that.”

How the Idea Began

Aydogan said his team got the idea for Binarta while working on a consultant project in Belgium, where the company is based. He came in contact with small- to medium-business leaders who were frustrated with the complexity of admin panels and usability of their current CMS platforms on mobile.

“We wanted to fix this problem,” he said. “If someone can build a website through their phone or tablet, everyone can build their own website without issues.”

They conducted pilot projects with small to medium businesses, and the product was received very well, said Aydogan. They then went to IWT – the government agency for Innovation in Science and Technology in Belgium, which promotes innovative high-tech companies with grants.

“They were impressed with our mobile-first approach, so we got the grant,” said Aydogan. Binarta was then launched in late January.

The company was also accepted to the Deloitte Innovation Centre Booster Academy Program.

“A lot of people were impressed,” said Aydogan. “We received funding to keep the  product going.”

The Advantage of Mobile Services

For those skeptical of being able to build their own site through their phone, Aydogan explained that users are taking advantage of services such as speech to text  recognition to make it easier and faster to build their sites.

“We thought about how to make the Experiance more seamless,” he said. “It’s really easy when you think about it. The only thing you can do is point and click, and use speech to text, like Siri on your iPhone, or Google Voice on your Android.”

He added that when testing typing versus speech to text, the latter was faster than manually inputting information.

“When you get used to it, it helps a lot,” he said. “It’s not always 100 percent correct, but correcting is a lot faster than typing.”
